How do you pick out your Halloween costume every year?

I’m very indecisive and every year I end up with a crappy costume I buy at the last minute, just whatever’s left at the store. But this year will be different! I’m choosing my costume in advance like the semi-responsible adult that I am. According to this [Halloween costume quiz](, I should dress as a [“Cozy Sexy Bat”]( What do you think of this costume? And how do you decide which costume to wear every year?

  1. I tend to not be super great at choosing costumes, but I think I have decided on one I want to make this year, as long as I don’t change my mind.

You can narrow down your choices by thinking about what you want to put in to the costume, the general “genre” of costume you want, and what you will be wearing it for.

This year I am going to parties, so I decided anything very bulky or with a mouth covering mask would be something I don’t personally want.

Do you want something funny, scary, pop-culture related, sexy, classic, or some combination of those? I like doing characters from shows or movies or things that walk the line between scary and classic.

Lastly, do you want a costume you largely make/design or a store bought costume? And how much money are you willing to spend?

A trip walking around a Halloween store can be helpful and fun, even if you don’t want to buy a costume because you can get ideas from the things you see around. Browsing around the internet can also help. you can also use specific areas like make up or shoes or some other accessory and look for ideas in those areas and base a costume off of that.

I think the bat costume is cute if you want something simple and comfortable.

I think there is a thread here for Halloween costume ideas and also some different subreddits, like /r/halloween_costumes and /r/halloween_ideas. I’m not sure how active they are but they exist and you could use them for inspiration. Either way it’s good to pick an idea relatively early and stick to it.
